Setup was refreshingly straightforward for something this tech-heavy. The Litter-Robot 5 Pro arrives mostly assembled, which immediately lowers the intimidation factor. If you’re not sure where to start, though, as soon as you open it there is a piece of cardboard at the top that has a QR code to help you get set up.
Honestly, aside from popping the step on, for the most part just plug it in, connect it to Wi-Fi through the Whisker app, and follow the on-screen prompts on the bright, full-color LCD display.
The display itself is a big upgrade—it walks you through onboarding clearly, shows real-time status, and makes it easy to check things at a glance without opening the app. I especially like that the lighting is customizable (and yes, I absolutely played with the color options).
Literally the only thing about setup that was tricky was getting the box into the house. It’s HUGE, so unless you have super long arms and Hulk-like strength, you’ll need someone to help you bring it in.
