You literally just need to take it out of the box, take it out of the bag that it’s in, set it where you want it, and plug it in. It even comes with a bag already installed in the waste tray!
App monitoring:
With the CATLINK app, you can monitor litter box activity, track waste levels, and even customize settings—all from your phone. Yes, just about any smart self-cleaning litter box offers that, but CATLINK takes their app to whole new levels of detail. There is A LOT to explore in it.
First, there’s the litter box interface, which tells you everything from how much litter you have left to the temperature and humidity inside the box. It also tells you whether it’s getting close to time to change the litter (FYI, you can empty all of the litter at once with the “empty” mode), whether you need a new odor filter soon, and so on.
If you go to the “cats” tab, you can see health details about each kitty. As you can see, the litter box records kitty’s weight and how often they go to the bathroom. For the other items on the list (diet, water, activity, etc), you’ll need different products. I’ll talk about that in a moment. I want to move on to the “multi-cat friendly” benefit because this plays into the app.
Multi-cat friendly:
CATLINK is by far the MOST multi-cat friendly litter box when it comes to tracking bathroom habits and weight. This is the 5th automatic box I’ve tried and it’s the ONLY one that consistently recognizes the difference between my cats. Luke and Leia are almost the same weight right now, within a few ounces difference.
One thing, though- it does seem to take about a day to really figure out who’s who. During the first day it kept telling me “probably a cat peed,” which I thought was pretty funny, or it would tell me the wrong cat. But by the second day it consistently started tracking the right cat at the right time.

There’s a nifty feature of CATLINK that really puts the “link” part of their name into play. All of their products are designed to work together to give you a full picture of your cat’s overall health through the app.
I have the CATLINK RFID Pet Feeder and the PURE 2 water fountain to test out, too. Once I get those loaded into the app I’ll show you how they all work together. But basically, you bind your cat to each product and then the info shows up on their health screen.

The entrance to the litter box sits a bit higher than some competitors (although pretty on par with the Leo’s Loo Too). This can make it a bit tricky for older cats with arthritis or other issues.
They do sell a ramp as an add-on, though. I’m using that with mine, as you can see in most of my pictures. I like it because it’s designed to catch litter stuck on your cat’s paws, but it does add a good chunk of depth to the measurements, and it costs about $100 extra. If you don’t want to pay for it, you can also just add a little stool in front of the box. We do that with our Leo’s Loo Too.
Confusing app setup
This was the most frustrating drawback for me. I couldn’t get the app to locate the box automatically, even when I held my phone an inch away from it. I decided to add it manually, but that took some doing as well because the instructions and panel controls aren’t very intuitive.
Let me save you some frustration. Look at the picture below. You’re going to need to hold the two buttons circled in red for a good 15-20 seconds, until the WiFi indicator lights up (circled in blue). As you’re holding it, the panel lock indicator will light up. You’ll think “crud, what did I do wrong?” Just keep holding them. After a few seconds that will turn off and the WiFi will light up. After that, the rest of the directions are easier to follow.
Pricey compared to traditional boxes
The CATLINK Scooper Luxury Pro-X is definitely pricey compared to your average plain old traditional litter box, which is kind of a “no duh” thing to say. Compared to other self-cleaning boxes it’s actually pretty mid-range price-wise, though. It’s not the cheapest of all but it’s a good $100-200 cheaper than some competitors.
