Mr. Petcam Pet Collar Camera for Cats
Mr. Petcam is a compact pet collar camera that features high-definition image and video resolution. So far, this is our top choice as it is the only solution in the market specifically designed for cats and dogs.
Upon unboxing the package, here’s everything that is included with Mr. Petcam HD camera:
- USB Charging/Video Transfer Cable
- Clip Assembly (for cats or dogs with small collars)
- Velcro Attachment Strap
- 16GB Micro SD Memory Card
- Waterproof Housing (for dogs)
- 360 Degree Mounting Bracket (ideal for medium/large dogs)
- Printed Instructions (video instructions can be accessed through the link on the instructions page)
The collar camera is easy to setup. Recording videos in this camera is simple. And, the video file format is also in AVI which is supported by most video applications today.
When I tried to put it on my cat, it was very simple to attach on his collar. Also, he is comfortable and just acts like his usual self while the camera is on. We were able to film a five-minute video on our first try and the recording was awesome!
Additionally, what I love about this collar cam is its compact size and versatility. Use it to record your fur babies’ activities in their point of view and also monitor them at the same time — like a spy camera into my cat’s life!
One standout feature is night vision, with two infrared sensors that allow for clear footage in the dark.
You can also use it for other purposes such as home security, baby monitoring, and even sports.

Insta 360 Go 3
The Insta360 Go 3 is a game-changer in the world of action cameras, especially when it comes to capturing your cat’s adventures. Weighing just 35g, this tiny camera is packed with features that make it an excellent choice for recording from your pet’s perspective. It’s definitely a serious competitor with GoPro and much smaller and practical for using with a cat.
What’s in the Box:
- Insta360 Go 3 Camera
- Magnetic Pendant
- Pivot Stand
- Charging Cable
- Action Pod Dock
- User Manual
When it comes to setting up the Insta360 Go 3 on your cat, there are a number of Insta360-compatible cat collars available on Amazon that make it easy to secure the camera comfortably. These collars are designed to work seamlessly with the camera, ensuring a stable and comfortable fit for your cat. After some trial and error, I found the ideal angle to capture my cat’s whiskers and paws as he walked, giving the video a true cat’s-eye view. The camera’s lightweight design meant my cat didn’t seem to notice it at all, which is crucial for capturing natural behavior.
The Insta360 Go 3 offers higher video quality compared to the Mr. Petcam, with options to shoot in 2.7K, 1440P, or 1080P. The 2.7K resolution provides crisper and clearer footage, making it a better choice for those looking for top-tier video quality. While Mr. Petcam’s video resolution is solid, the Insta360 Go 3’s superior stabilization and resolution give it an edge, particularly for high-action recordings.
One of the standout features of the Insta360 Go 3 is the FlowState Stabilization, which keeps footage smooth and steady even during intense movements. The 360° Horizon Lock ensures that no matter how much your cat twists and turns, the horizon in your video stays perfectly level. See the video below for a great example of this.
Another point to consider is the cost. The Insta360 Go 3 is a premium product with a price tag to match. While it offers advanced features, it might be a costly item for your cat to carry around the neighborhood, especially if you’re concerned about the possibility of it getting lost or damaged. The Mr. Petcam, being more affordable and designed specifically for pets, might be a more practical choice for those primarily focused on pet safety and cost-effectiveness.
Overall, the Insta360 Go 3 is an innovative and versatile camera that delivers exceptional video quality and advanced features. However, it’s important to consider the cost, especially if there’s a chance it might come off during your cat’s adventures. What I love most about this camera is its versatility—I’m excited to try it out not only with my cat but also while skiing and on my upcoming trip to Hawaii later this year.

GoPro Hero 9
GoPro Hero 9 is a popular recommendation for a pet collar camera. It is a popular adventure camera that is very versatile and can be also used for other purposes.
While GoPro boasts superior image and video quality, battery, and storage capacity, it is actually not suitable for pet collars, particularly to cats and small dogs. The camera itself is too big and heavy for them to handle. You can use it on large dogs with a special GoPro harness. I was able to use it on my Great Dane. The video recordings were superb and I can’t ask for more about its resolution and connectivity. However, it’s not a collar camera because it’s too heavy for cats.
With that being said, I would highly recommend GoPro for personal use but not for dogs and cats. Personally, I do not find it to be pet-friendly. Plus, we all know how expensive this camera is.
Wireless Cat Collar Camera
Wireless Cat Collar Camera is an innovative camera that enables you to connect the camera to a mobile app called MyCam app. I tried downloading the app and connecting the collar camera and I was able to register easily.
While video recording is fine, I still prefer Mr. PetCam when it comes to image and video quality. What I like about it is the timing record feature where you can set it to record automatically on any day you want.
However, even though this product looks promising and innovative, it is not suitable for small dogs and cats. The camera is too heavy for a cat’s collar.
I tried putting it on my cat and I have to try different collars for it to fit properly.
Yolansin 4K Cat Collar Camera
I was excited to try the Yolansin 4K Cat Collar Camera because it was a good deal with the 20% off coupon I had. Setting it up was straightforward, and the app connected seamlessly with the camera. I was impressed with the video quality—4K resolution really does bring out all the details, making the footage clear and vivid – especially for the price
The camera is lightweight, which was a big plus for my cat, who didn’t seem to mind wearing it. However, I did notice that it gets quite hot after a few minutes of recording, which concerns me for extended use. I wouldn’t want my cat to feel uncomfortable.
One of the features I enjoyed was the remote control and Wi-Fi connectivity. It made capturing those spontaneous moments so much easier, and the footage is fun to watch back. The magnet holds the camera securely, and I didn’t have to worry about it falling off, even during my cat’s more active moments.
On the downside, the camera does tend to overheat, which could be a dealbreaker for some. Additionally, it’s a bit bulky for smaller pets, so I wouldn’t recommend it for tiny cats or small dogs. But for the price, it’s worth considering if you’re curious about your pet’s adventures. Just keep in mind that it might need a few tweaks to be perfect.
Pet Collar Camera Buyer’s Guide
Do not fret if you do not have much knowledge about cat collar cameras. We have made some pointers to make choosing an ideal collar camera for your fur babies easier.
Durability
This is the most important factor you should consider before making a purchase. If the camera is not long-lasting or your pet breaks (or chews) it off, your money will be gone in no time. Always seek reviews first and check for comparisons before considering purchasing the item.
Price
Before choosing a collar camera for your cats and dogs, you must also consider the price. Always read the product specifications and compare various brands. Remember, it is best to get the most out of your money.
Ease
The collar camera should be light enough for your cat to carry. It should not be too bulky and heavy for his or her weight. You wouldn’t want your fur babies to be uncomfortable while wearing their collars with a camera.
Features
There are a lot of pet collar cameras in the market offering different features. You can choose depending on your needs and what is ideal for your fur babies. Personally, these are the three camera features that I initially check when browsing:
- A minimum resolution of 720p, 1080p or higher is better
- Size and weight of the camera
- A collar camera with a wifi connectivity feature and other smart features is a plus
Final Word
There are more collar video cameras made for pets on the market but most of them are not so good. So far, among these cat collar cameras that we have listed, Mr. PetCam is still my top one choice since it provides the exact needs of dogs and cats and doesn’t break the bank.
I feel like this is the first review I’ve ever read that was absolutely honest and reliable. Thank you!!!
I’m going with Mr. Petcam…
Thank you! I have a question though… Can I get into trouble with law attaching a camera to my cat collar when she wonders around my neighbourhood? I’m asking as I have a problem with my cat. Someone started feeding her (resulting in her getting unhealthy overweight) and locking her indoors at night. I used a GPS tracker to identify who this person is but he denies it. So my instinct is use one of these cameras to get evidence. But I’m not sure how legal it is…
This is a fantastic question Lora. While there wouldn’t be any problems with your cat recording their travels on your own property, if your cat is a wanderer and goes into other peoples homes and gardens then there may be potential issues with him/her wearing a cat collar camera. Using a camera could pose significant risks, potentially invading people’s privacy without their consent, raising complex legal and ethical issues. If this is a concern of yours then I would suggest not using this device or seek legal advice first. As per usual, be informed and decerning whenever possible.
