The Petkit Pura X Automatic Litter Box has been released just recently and is now among the cat owners’ popular choices when it comes to automatic litter boxes due to its stylish design and compact size. This product can be controlled using the Petkit app which provides real-time notifications about your cat’s activity and also shows his or her weight! It also has an automatic odor removal feature to take care of the unpleasant smell after your cat has finished doing his or her business.
Since this product has been getting a lot of positive reviews from fellow cat owners, we thought of trying it out and giving it a review as well to help our undecided cat owners whether Petkit Pura X is worth your bucks.

Petkit Pura X VS Litter Robot 3
I have two cats — both males, one 8.5lbs and one 9.5lbs and they have been using the Litter Robot 3 for two years now. It has been a game-changer for us since we started using it but after reading a lot of positive reviews for Petkit Pura X, I was enticed to buy and try this product. It looks amazing and I was having some odor issues with my Litter Robot so, after a few weeks of contemplating whether to buy it or not, I finally made the decision to make the purchase even though it is really a splurge.
I decided to test using both Litter Robot 3 and Petkit Petkit Pura X at the same time to let my cats decide and do the judgment. They consume more space but I want to do sort of an experiment which among the two products would they prefer better. Is that weird or what? Well, we have been using Petkit Pura X for a few months now, check out how I found this product below.
Reviewing Petkit Pura X Awesome And Not So Awesome Features
Here are some of the aspects of the product that I took into consideration in this review:
Design
Excellent design! It looks better than Little Robot 3. It is sleek, ergonomic, and space-saving — I love that about it since I moved to a smaller apartment. It is pretty and looks like a tiny automatic washing machine. It is so adorable! It suits your home perfectly especially if you love minimalist interior designs. The design is well thought and everything just clicks together. Its filter is designed to fit multiple kinds of pet litter but not crystal cat litter though.
Smart features
The app is nice at first. It gives me detailed information regarding each visit. I can also control the frequency or time frame of the cleaning cycles. I also like that it displays your cat’s weight which I think is good to know. However, after one month of use, the app is crashing every now and then. Also, it has a social media function which I do not find very useful. I also encountered an error wherein it says that the litter is full even though it is empty. I was able to read on a forum that it just needs a calibration. So, I took the advice and I calibrate the scale every time I do a complete litter change. I also find the waste drawer smaller than Little Robot and sometimes the warning notification to clean appears late so there are instances wherein waste may fall out when you pull out the drawer.
Easy to clean
It is easy to disassemble the parts and deep clean them. If your cat has a soft stool or is experiencing diarrhea, there might be some poop streaks on the walls at times, but it only takes a few seconds of your time to wipe it down.
Quiet
Though it still makes a little noise, it is a bit quieter versus the Litter Robot 3 which makes it perfect for small rooms or apartments.
Price
It is indeed pricey (reg. price $599). Of course, with all those smart features and fancy designs, it really costs a lot. So, make sure to do your research first to weigh in whether you should make a purchase or not.
Odor removal
I have read in some reviews that the deodorizer does not work or find it too gimmicky and yes, I think this one is a downside for this product too. The odor control is not so efficient. I’ll still try to use a different deodorizer though maybe that will do the trick. I think a product worth this much should be able to do more. Odor control is a major problem I had with my Litter Robot which also made me consider buying this and possibly make a switch so I’m a little disappointed on this one.
Size
I saw an ad that says it fits multiple cats but it is only for single cat use. Both of my cats fit fine though the litter area seems small for them compared to Litter Robot. If you have bigger cats, I would say you should pass on this one as they may not fit.
My Cats’ Verdict on Petkit Pura X
At first, my cats got nervous about using Petkit Pura X after seeing it go through a clean cycle on the first day. Well, everyone is afraid if there is something new in their environment, even us hoomans, right? What I did is I manually ran the clean function from the app when they are not around. They are used to it by now. Though one thing that I noticed is that most of the time, they still choose to go to the Litter Robot. It’s like 70 percent of the time they still choose to go to Litter Robot over Petkit Pura X. I think they find Litter Robot a little more spacious inside. Petkit Pura X looks smaller outside as its design is space-saving but the Litter Robot’s litter area looks a little bit roomier. And I guess they are just more used to it since we have been using it for a long time now.
Personally, I still prefer to use the Litter Robot over Petkit Pura X, too. We still have to work on the Litter Robot’s odor problems especially since our new apartment is a little stuffier than the previous one but I think we can get through it. I picked up some tips from a cat enthusiasts’ group the other day and their advice is to put an air filter in the room. I already bought one but haven’t tried it yet but I am hoping this will do the trick. After all, I would still go for what my cats prefer.
However, both Petkit Pura X and Litter-Robot are on the same level. If you can not choose between these two, just follow your design and dimensions preferences.
Conclusion
I love some of Petpura X’s features especially being sleek and tiny and all but I think it’s fairly priced. If you love aesthetically designed and fancy-looking products with cool features and something that serves its purpose too, then you might want to give it a try. But if you are tight on budget and do not want to overspend on an automated self-cleaning cat litter, or you already own a Litter Robot and are trying to make a switch, I would say you should pass on this one.

Summary
Petkit Pura X Automatic Cat Litter Box
Hi Clair, thanks for the review. It is informative.
I have had the LR 3 for about 6 years now. During this time I had numerous hick-ups and replaced parts including the replacement of the entire base. Still, from time to time the LR decides to stop rotating upside down and my two cat boys are left without toilet. For that reason, and before the LR wifi became available, I installed a camera to monitor the LR. Nonetheless it will still occur that I miss a malfunction.
Concerning the odor development with the LR3 I agree completely with you. I use Dr. Elsey’s clay litter. What helped in my case a little bit, was the increase of the dwell time to maximum. Initially I had it left at the factory setting, which I think is 6 or seven minutes. The maximum is longer and certainly helps the clumping. Clumped the litter odor will be reduced.
Like you I was looking into trying a Pura X. What deters me is the lack of long term experience. Automated Pet Products with their line of LR has been around for quite some time. Whenever I needed their service they were fast to respond and very, very helpful and accommodating. I would like to know what the experience with Pura X is. Do you have any?
What concerns me too is that there are many sources you can buy this product from. Next to the usual suspects Target, Walmart etc. one can find many Ebay sellers. All of them claim they are outlets of the original factory (in China) and offer 12 months warranty. Are they really? It is very common to see on Alibaba similar looking products yet manufactured by different companies. They seem to copy anything and everything. I wonder if anyone had experience how good they are at keeping their warranty promises. Automated Pet Products, in my opinion, set the bar very high in this respect.
Finally, I am happy about your conclusion to rather stay with the LR. I may buy another one and have it placed next to the old (space luckily is not an issue), so that if one fails the other hopefully will still perform its duties.
Thanks for the review, Clair, and keep up the good work!
You better hope the circuit board doesn’t fail. I determined that mine had failed. The display would come on for a few seconds and then shut off. I called the company and sent emails several times. You cannot get a replacement circuit board.
