Drinkwell Pagoda General Features

As I mentioned, Milo, my curious cat, has been putting this cat water fountain to the test. Finding an aesthetically pleasing fountain that caters to his needs while keeping the water fresh and appealing was definitely a priority. The Drinkwell Pagoda checked all of the boxes…and then some!

Solid Packaging: The fountain arrives with all parts securely packed in bags and protected with styrofoam, ensuring no breakage during shipping.

Sturdy Ceramic Design: Made of ceramic, it’s super sturdy and looks very nice, reducing worries about it getting knocked off if you have it situated on a countertop or table.

Easy Assembly: It took less than five minutes to set up with well-written instructions and nothing too complicated.

Clean Aesthetics: The design is very clean and simple, fitting well with any home decor. It’s a lovely aesthetically pleasing product and fits in well with all the white trim in our bathroom.

Dual Free-Falling Streams: Provides two streams of water, which is great for encouraging pets to drink more.

Replaceable Charcoal and Foam Filters: Helps remove bad tastes and odors, keeping water clean and fresh. Don’t skip the step of rinsing out the carbon filter before you put it in the fountain because the filter was filthy with black charcoal debris that came out initially. If you don’t wash it first, this will come out in your pet’s water fountain instead.

70 oz. (2-Liter) Capacity: Provides enough water, reducing the need for frequent refills.

Relaxing Water Sound: The gentle sound of flowing water adds a calming ambiance to your home. Ensure the fountain is filled to the upper level for optimal performance.

Easy to Clean: Dishwasher-safe components make maintenance a breeze.

What We Love

There’s a lot to love about the Drinkwell Pagoda Cat Water Fountain! Here’s a quick rundown of my favorite features.

Solid Packaging

The solid packaging was a pleasant surprise. With all the bits and pieces securely packed in bags and protected with styrofoam, I wasn’t worried about breakage during shipping, especially since this is ceramic and could easily break during the shipping process. However, for those who are environmentally conscious, the styrofoam and individual packaging for each part of the fountain might be a drawback.

Sturdy Ceramic Design

The standout feature of the Drinkwell Pagoda for me is definitely its sturdy ceramic design. Ensuring the fountain stays in place is important, and this one does just that. I don’t have to worry about my cat bumping this water fountain and accidentally pushing it off the bathroom countertop because it’s heavy and won’t slide around.

Clean Aesthetics

Another highlight is the clean aesthetics of the fountain. This pet water fountain is simple, durable, and stylish, fitting well with any home decor.

The assembly process was a breeze. It took me less than five minutes to set up, thanks to the well-written instructions. There’s nothing complicated about it.

Easy Assembly

Unlike my old fountain, which required taking the unit apart to refill , the Drinkwell Pagoda is much quicker and easier to fill with water. I simply fill a jug with water and pour it directly into the main water basin. With a large 70 oz. water capacity, I also don’t need to refill it as often as I had to with my other water fountain.

Open Design

I also feel great peace of mind knowing that if the electricity happens to go out while we’re away, Milo can still drink water from the reservoir, unlike other fountains where the water is contained under the top lid section and he wouldn’t have access to the water.

What We Don’t Love

Even the best cat water fountains have their flaws, and the Drinkwell Pagoda isn’t the exception.

Larger Footprint

The larger footprint might be a factor in your decision if you’re short on space. It takes up more room on my countertop compared to my old pet water fountain, however I have a large vanity countertop so ultimately it’s not an issue for me.

Audible Water Sounds

The water fountain is quite audible, especially when it’s not filled to the top. It’s not the pump that’s loud but the water falling from the fountain into the water below. I could hear it from down the hall, which might be nice for people who enjoy the sound of water and ambient white noise. However, we have the water fountain in our ensuite bathroom beside where we sleep, so we turn it off at night. Luckily due to it’s great open design, Milo can still drink out of the fountain, even if it’s not running.

Dust and Fur Exposure

With a larger amount of water exposed to the air, there’s a higher chance of dust and fur making their way into the filter. This could result in the need for more frequent filter changes. In comparison, my previous fountain had less exposed water surface, so the filters didn’t seem to get as dirty quite as quickly.

No LED Light

One small feature my old water fountain had that this one lacks is an LED light. Initially, I didn’t see the benefit of a light, but over time, I grew to appreciate the extra bit of light in my ensuite bathroom whenever I needed to use the bathroom in the middle of the night. While this certainly isn’t a deal breaker, it’s worth mentioning.

Non-Matching Cord Color

Lastly, and this isn’t a major issue by any means, but a white cord would have been a nice touch to better match the fountain’s color. However, this is not a significant concern.

Now that we have a good overview of the top benefits and biggest drawbacks, let’s finish things off with some FAQs that will help us dig a bit deeper.

PetSafe recommends replacing the carbon filter every 2-4 weeks (if you are using these continuously) and the foam filter every 1-2 months, depending on the number of pets using the fountain and their water consumption.

Absolutely! The Drinkwell Pagoda is suitable for both cats and dogs, encouraging all pets to drink more water.

How Do I Clean the Drinkwell Pagoda?

The ceramic parts are dishwasher-safe, making cleaning easy. For the pump and other components, regular hand washing with soap and water is recommended. I found the cleaning was a breeze to deal with.

If you’re looking for a stylish and functional water fountain for your pet, it’s definitely worth considering.
