The PETKIT Pura X Automatic Litter Box is quickly becoming a favorite among cat owners. Its sleek design and compact size, paired with the convenience of being controlled via the PETKIT app, make it stand out. The app not only keeps you updated on your cat’s activity but also tracks their weight – pretty neat, right? Plus, it’s got an automatic odor removal system to keep things fresh post-cat business.
Seeing the buzz around this product, and the heap of praises it’s been receiving, I decided it was time to put it to the test myself and share my findings with you, especially if you’re on the fence about whether the PETKIT Pura X is worth the investment.
I took the PETKIT Pura X Automatic Litter Box for a spin and here's the scoop: it's sleek, smart, and a perfect fit for minimalist homes. While it's a hit in the design department, it's a bit of a splurge and the odor control could be better. My cats still favor the roomier Litter Robot, but for those drawn to stylish, tech-savvy gadgets, the PETKIT Pura X is worth considering. However, if you're budget-conscious or happy with your current setup, you might want to stick with what you've got.
PETKIT Pura X VS Litter Robot 3
I’m a proud parent to two male cats, weighing 8.5lbs and 9.5lbs, respectively. We’ve been Litter Robot 3 users for two years, which has been a total game-changer for us. However, the glowing reviews of PETKIT Pura X piqued my curiosity. The stylish look was a draw, plus I was dealing with some odor issues with my current setup. After mulling it over, I splurged on the PETKIT Pura X.
I ran an interesting experiment at home – I set up both the Litter Robot 3 and PETKIT Pura X simultaneously to see which one my feline friends would take to more. Yes, it took up more space, but hey, it’s all in the name of science, right? So, here’s my take on the PETKIT Pura X after a few months of use.
Reviewing PETKIT Pura X Awesome And Not So Awesome Features
In my deep dive into the PETKIT Pura X Automatic Litter Box, I zeroed in on several key features to bring you a comprehensive review:
Design – A Big Win!
First off, the design is a total knockout. It’s sleeker and more space-efficient than the Litter Robot 3 – a huge plus for my smaller apartment. It’s not just functional; it’s pretty, resembling a mini automatic washing machine. For those who adore minimalist interiors, this litter box is a dream. Its filter is versatile, fitting most types of pet litter, but crystal cat litter is a no-go.
PETKIT Pura X’s Smart Features – A Mixed Bag
The app started off great, offering detailed info on each visit and allowing me to adjust cleaning cycles. It even shows my cats’ weights, which is handy. But, a month in, the app began to crash now and then. There’s a social media feature that I find unnecessary, and I’ve hit a snag with error messages about the litter being full when it’s not. A quick calibration, advised by a forum, seems to fix it each time. The waste drawer is smaller than Litter Robot’s, and sometimes I get late notifications to clean it, risking spills when I pull out the drawer.
Cleaning – Easy Breezy but with a Catch
Disassembly and deep cleaning are a breeze. However, if your cat’s stool is soft or if they have diarrhea, be prepared for some cleanup on the walls. Thankfully, it’s a quick wipe-down.
Noise Level – Quieter than You’d Expect
Though it still makes a little noise, it is a bit quieter versus the Litter Robot 3 which makes it perfect for small rooms or apartments.
Price – A Hefty Investment
Priced at $599, it’s definitely on the higher end. With all its smart features and chic design, the cost is understandable, but make sure to consider if it’s worth the investment for your needs.
Odor Control – Could Be Better
Despite its claims, the deodorizer doesn’t quite hit the mark. I’m planning to try a different deodorizer, hoping for better results. Given its price, I expected more efficiency in this area, especially since odor control was a key issue with my Litter Robot.
Size – Best Suited for Single Cats
Despite ads suggesting it’s suitable for multiple cats, it’s really best for just one. My two cats fit, but the litter area feels cramped compared to the Litter Robot. Larger cats might find it too snug, so keep that in mind.
My Cats’ Verdict on PETKIT Pura X
In the beginning, my cats were a bit skittish about the PETKIT Pura X, especially after witnessing its first cleaning cycle. It’s normal, right? New things can spook anyone, even us humans. To ease them in, I operated the cleaning function manually through the app when they weren’t around. They’ve gotten used to it now, but I’ve noticed they still lean towards the Litter Robot – about 70% of the time, actually. I suspect it’s because the Litter Robot feels more spacious to them. While the PETKIT Pura X has a space-saving design and appears smaller on the outside, the Litter Robot offers a bit more room inside, and they’ve been familiar with it for longer.
On a personal note, I’m still leaning towards the Litter Robot as well. We’re grappling with some odor issues, more so now in our snugger apartment, but I’m hopeful we’ll sort it out. I picked up a tip from a cat enthusiasts’ group to try an air filter in the room. I haven’t set it up yet but fingers crossed it works. In the end, I go with what my cats prefer.
Both PETKIT Pura X and Litter-Robot are top-notch options. If you’re torn between the two, your choice might just boil down to your preference in design and size.
Wrapping It Up: My Take on the PETKIT Pura X Automatic Litter Box
In summary, the PETKIT Pura X has its charms, particularly its sleek, compact design. It’s fairly priced for what it offers – a blend of aesthetic appeal and nifty features, all while fulfilling its primary purpose. If you’re someone who appreciates fancy, well-designed products with a touch of tech-savviness, PETKIT Pura X might just be worth exploring. However, if your budget is tight, or you’re not keen on splurging on an automated, self-cleaning litter box, then this might not be the best fit for you. Similarly, if you already have a Litter Robot and are considering a switch, my advice would be to stick with what you have.

PETKIT Pura X Automatic Cat Litter Box
Hi Clair, thanks for the review. It is informative.
I have had the LR 3 for about 6 years now. During this time I had numerous hick-ups and replaced parts including the replacement of the entire base. Still, from time to time the LR decides to stop rotating upside down and my two cat boys are left without toilet. For that reason, and before the LR wifi became available, I installed a camera to monitor the LR. Nonetheless it will still occur that I miss a malfunction.
Concerning the odor development with the LR3 I agree completely with you. I use Dr. Elsey’s clay litter. What helped in my case a little bit, was the increase of the dwell time to maximum. Initially I had it left at the factory setting, which I think is 6 or seven minutes. The maximum is longer and certainly helps the clumping. Clumped the litter odor will be reduced.
Like you I was looking into trying a Pura X. What deters me is the lack of long term experience. Automated Pet Products with their line of LR has been around for quite some time. Whenever I needed their service they were fast to respond and very, very helpful and accommodating. I would like to know what the experience with Pura X is. Do you have any?
What concerns me too is that there are many sources you can buy this product from. Next to the usual suspects Target, Walmart etc. one can find many Ebay sellers. All of them claim they are outlets of the original factory (in China) and offer 12 months warranty. Are they really? It is very common to see on Alibaba similar looking products yet manufactured by different companies. They seem to copy anything and everything. I wonder if anyone had experience how good they are at keeping their warranty promises. Automated Pet Products, in my opinion, set the bar very high in this respect.
Finally, I am happy about your conclusion to rather stay with the LR. I may buy another one and have it placed next to the old (space luckily is not an issue), so that if one fails the other hopefully will still perform its duties.
Thanks for the review, Clair, and keep up the good work!
You better hope the circuit board doesn’t fail. I determined that mine had failed. The display would come on for a few seconds and then shut off. I called the company and sent emails several times. You cannot get a replacement circuit board.
